Hi Friends! Welcome back to my blog. When I was pregnant with my son, I wanted nothing more than for him to love reading. I wasn’t the biggest reader, but his dad was and I loved that about him. For his baby shower, I remember asking for books instead of cards and that was the start of something really special. All of my children love to read and look at pictures. We also limit screens, so reading is sometimes all they knew. However, as they got older and we started to homeschool, the books we started to buy changed. I started to notice the depth and quality of kids’ books were lacking. I also thought of the scene from Elf about the children’s books they were printing lol! Books and even language had become a topic of interest for me because I was never the baby talk mom. The books I was buying were pretty and colorful but lacked any room to continue conversation. So I stopped buying three sentence books and started filling the shelves with classical books, and ones that pulled out more from us.
In light of Easter coming up, I will talk about a book we read as a part of our spring reading. I love books that make my kids ask questions, and even allow us to go down wild rabbit holes. Being a homeschool family, I have also been able to teach an entire week based off of one picture book!
This week we read Rechenkas’ Eggs. Not only is it beautifully illustrated, it covered other topics like Russian geography, miracles, crafts/art, and even animal discussions.

For school it allowed us to learn about Russia and it’s culture. My son was intrigued that they called the grandmother Babushka and wanted to learn more on that topic. My daughters love animals, so they wanted to learn more about the caribou illustrated in the book. The book also speaks on the miracles of life, and how God’s blessings come in ways we couldn’t imagine. The book brought so much joy for us that week, and I just had to share it with you guys.

Some of our favorite books this year have been:
Hubert’s Hair- Raising Adventure
* I like to check the library, but I also find really good deals on books from Christianbook.com. I will try to link as many as I can!
I could probably write an entire list of books, but here is some for now! I love reading to my kids and I love allowing them to ask questions and explore things I wouldn’t have thought of. It reminds me of a book my son read a few years ago called Prairie School. It provided the perfect example of why books matter and are cool 😉
Until next time,
Keep Growing,
Whit
