Read This Not That-Christian Girl Summer Reads
Hey Friends!
Welcome back to my page! I’m sure from the title you see today’s talk is a little controversial. So here it goes: Sisters reading smut and watching smut is the same thing. If you wouldn’t want your husband watching smut, why are we given a free pass? It may be all the rave right now and this week’s book club choice, but we don’t live for this world. Everything is over sexualized in today’s society, and reading smut has become the norm. But sisters we’re called to be doers of the word not the world (James 1:22). God created intimacy for our spouses, and even though it is a book, lusting after anything else is sinful and can lead you astray. Let’s just say the comparison trap can go in many different directions, including our intimacy with our spouse.
So, what can we do about it? First, if there is something deeper that you’re struggling with, take it to Jesus. I know this topic can be embarrassing, but sisters He already knows, and wants us to come to Him. Second, don’t take it from what everyone else is reading and do some research for yourself. I have to admit I wasn’t always a reader, but found I just hadn’t found what I liked yet. I do enjoy classic novels, but I like some easy fiction reads too. Ones that are fun and you grow to love the characters! I also love my kids seeing me read. So, here are a few of the fiction authors I am loving right now and think you should try.
Colleen Coble
If you are a suspense girly, Colleen is your gal. She is know for her romantic suspense and mystery novels. She is really into seeing justice prevail and I love the locations she chooses for her series. I also love when a author brings in characters from others books in some ways! I have read many of her series but the first collection I read was One Little Lie, and apart of her Pelican Harbor Series!

T. I. Lowe
Oh, this is probably up there as one of my favorites. She is full of southern charm, and has way of making you feel you are in the exact place she is writing. Her stories could be written about any of us, and I’m not sure I’ve read one that I didn’t have tears and also felt like I was taken to church. My first book of hers was Under the Magnolias, and I have been hooked ever sense. I just purchased Indigo Isle, and I can’t wait to read it!

Michelle Shocklee
I just found Michelle, but I love her historical fiction. I love being transported back in time, and she has a way of going back in forth from past to present beautifully. I also, love the strong faith presented during some epic trials, and even coming to Jesus moments. My first book from Michelle was Appalachian Song, and Songbird will always have a place in my heart. I just finished, Count the Nights by Stars and it was beautiful story of forbidden love based around the Tennessee Centennial Exposition. The way Michelle is able to easily glide the stories from 1961 and 1897 is just a dream.

I could probably go on and on, but let’s start here! I was convicted on the books I was reading a few years back, and I hope this helps someone else. I’m so grateful for the grace, we are given! Please comment below on some books you are reading or plan to read this summer! Let’s help each other! Ok, bye for now and keep growing!
