Hey Friends!
It’s the year 2020 and everyone has begun to unleash their grandmother skills. Everyone except for me. I did not want to do love sourdough. I thought it was too trendy, and didn’t want anything to do with it. Until I started, loved it, and now currently looking for chickens! Sourdough now has been an huge part of my motherhood journey, and has actually been the one thing that has forced me to slow down.
We have all heard it, slow down and enjoy motherhood. Yet sometimes that is easier said than done. I found myself sitting down but still thinking about what I needed to do. Sourdough though can’t be rushed. It takes time, you have to stretch and fold, let it proof. I remember asking Jesus to use my hands at the end of 2023 and without realizing, He used sourdough to help me be more intentional. To stick with something, and actually enjoy the process.
During the holidays I actually enjoyed making many dishes because I transitioned to mostly sourdough. I am also someone that long ferments, and with a little planning my holiday cooking was actually low stress. Here are a few of my favorite long ferment recipes I am currently loving:
- https://www.butterforall.com/traditional-cooking-traditional-living/sweet-and-buttery-sourdough-pie-crust/
- https://hopewellheightsblog.com/sourdough-cinnamon-rolls/
- And of course my sourdough bread recipe!
If you have yet to try sourdough don’t let it intimidate you! Here is a great starter kit too! If you have a friend that has some starter ask for some! Most of the time we want to rush the process, but if your starter isn’t strong, neither will your bread. Look for local bread classes, and watch youtube! With a little trial and error, you will slow down and make a loaf you are truly proud of. Tell me below how you started and where you are now!
Keep growing,
Whit
